We need a good blend of both cap. and soc. Those of us who need less of a helping hand from the gov. will want a strong capitalist society whereas those less fortunate will need a strong socialist infrastructure. It is all based upon needs of the nation's citizens of which our country has a varied mix. sidebar: I can't believe how the returning soldiers were/are treated. The army base nearby here has had 11 suicides of soldiers so far this year. The vets need a helping hand both mentally, socially, fiscally, etc. They have indured what we can only imagine. The cowboy president should be...no that's old news..I'm not going to say it because this web site is spidered. Obama should plan for a strong social gov. to help all citizens and rebuild the nations social and physical infrastructure. However, his bailing out of the private companies leaves me wondering. The tax payer will eventually have to cover the huge cost of this action. I am not confident that Obama will find savings to cover the bailout. I mean when you get really real this expense will fall on our shoulders. A mixed blessing we have here, but it has always been that way. |

The cost of the bailout is astronomical above and beyond whatever stupid shit Bush did. But I would gladly allocate more $ to returning vets. Cybele |

wracket wrote: As far as national health care is concerned, here in France one has the choice to have private health insurance on top of the state-sponsored program, and a lot of the middle-to-upper class types do so. If private and public health care can coexist in an effective way here, why not in the US? I don't think it can exist here in the US because we're more corrupt, we have more illegal aliens, and we have a larger welfare state. But, I will contest that my outlook is jaded as I live in Chicago and I've seen nothing but failure, corruption, and welfare. Cybele |

Seriously. . .they're fucking horrible. They can't be fired either because they're in a union. It is more dangerous being a Chicago public school kid than being a kid in Iraq. More have died. Cybele |

You know, I agree with you completely. Even the finest teachers cannot teach these kids. They literally have no parents. Their parents are children. But a lot of these teachers are complete horseshit. By the way, I could never be a teacher. I have nothing but profound respect for teachers. . .THAT ARE GOOD. Cybele |

Labhead wrote: . . .with the contractors not showing up with the soldier's food, providing tainted water and food, raping women and not being held accountable, billions of dollars unaccounted for, etc etc etc. That is because the contractors were CHOSEN BY THE GOVERNMENT. This isn't exactly a privatized military. And there is a difference between the government being in bed with certain contractors vs. a more separate entity such as Allstate insurance or State Farm. In your example, it was a contractor + a government crony seeking to profit at the expense of soldiers that had no say in the relationship. It's a double-profit for two corporations with the "clients" having ZERO say. If I don't like Allstate, I got to BCBS or United Healthcare, etc. Yes, there are cronies in their boardrooms, but I have a choice, and one company profits for the services. I happen to know personally of a chain of restaurants that is run by pure evil. I choose not to eat there. Cybele

he is just making new managed care plans for ones that already exist for medicaid and medicare which already fall under the dispersement of managed care. Unless he proposes some major changes in the regulations and policies of such managed care companies it's just business as usual. trust me. hospital administration is a real calling of mine. It's just more managed care "choices". which basically means different diseases will receive more or less coverage and just a bunch of cost-cutting bs. You'll still be able to find a managed care company that fits your needs- UNTIL YOU GET SICK. don't worry
