I can understand why he fled, not being a citizen of this country, and being told he would get away with time served, and then told "No, wait, you get 50 years!"

What's weird about the whole thing is that he went away, traveled Europe, made movies, became a French citizen, won an Academy award, lived IN Switzerland (where he was arrested) for part of this year, where he owns property. There was admitted judicial misconduct in his case, and the victim forgave him.

Now he is he suddenly arrested. Makes no sense.

People have argued that he "got away" with it because he is rich. But if you ask me, if he were some nobody who got away with fleeing to France, and lived there for 30 years, he probably wouldn't be in this predicament. There is someone in California who wants publicity, or money, or is just plain vindictive.

Mind you, I'm not saying that what he did is excusable.

Oh, add to that he is married and has children...and is not a repeat offender. Why go after him now?

True, but shouldn't this have been done 32 years ago? Why allow him to live his whole adult life and then randomly arrest him? After all, he was told he had already served his time.

Re: Roman Polanski arrested in Switzerland

would you hold this view if he was American , BLACK and not a famous person ? I can't believe anyone would actually contribute to his career by watching his films much less him winning an academy award. THE ART WORLD IS SO FUCKED IN THE HEAD. I actually went to art school and studied a classical form. These heretics in the film industry and music industry can go fuck their mamas. I'm so relieved with the advent of you tube and programs like this are destroying these over-rated, inflated self aggrandizing industries, music and film, and returning it to the hands of legitimate artists like myself.

YES, he deserved to go to jail all this time!! I am the mother of a thirteen year old girl and if that had been my child he would have been in jail a long time ago.

Re: Roman Polanski arrested in Switzerland

My view is that yes, it was against the law, but that I find it strange they waited so long and suddenly decided to arrest him...and I would feel the same if it were a black American man. I would wonder why they waited so long, knowing that he did it.

Re: Roman Polanski arrested in Switzerland

The act was clearly non-consensual and illicit.

I do, however, think American culture is, in general, too puritanical, unforgiving, judgmental, and litigious.

Those who commit such crimes are unhealthy people who have likely had similar crimes commited against them.

Yeah, and they make even more sense when they delve into politics too, right?

Now, Chinatown was pretty good, but Repulsion, in my opinion, was over-rated. Rosemary's Baby. . .eh, I dunno. The Piano. . .interesting. Frantic was okay.

There you have it.
