Re: probably the best

Apart from a few songs that I mercilessly skip (tracks 4, 7 and 12) as well as "Free Design" being the Groop's worst choice for single ever, there's a lot of strong material on Cobra. Aside all that vague pseudo-jazz noodle which one can take or leave, there's a lot of material that shares affinity to the classic Stereolab: "Infinity Girl" is a great pop tune in the tradition of "Ping Pong" that would've been a better choice for single than that "Free Design". "Blue Milk", a relentless minimalist drone piece clearly suggests a more subdued "Jenny Ondioline". "Op Hop Detonation" is very reminiscent of ETK stuff, the pairing of cornet and fuzz guitar in the middle is nothing short of genius. "Strobo Accelerator" sounds like jazz variation on "Outer Accelerator" from MAQ. Last two tracks are clearly the best ones: "Emergency Kisses" is mellow lounge-infused post-rock at its best, with particularly transcendent string arrangements, whereas "Come and Play In the Milky Night" clearly sounds like little else they've done. The instrumentation, the atmosphere, the melody, the groove, it's all perfect. Great tune. Any album with an album closer like this can't be a total failure.
