Video links

Can I suggest a couple of things:

a) if you post a video link, say something yourself. Posting video links is a lazy way of contributing to the www dialogue.

b) Maybe there should be an ongoing topic of video links. Rather than starting a new one each time, just add them on unless...you have a point to make.

c) don't assume that finding a video on youtube is particularly profound. Anyone can search for stereolab clips so, only add one if it is on a hard to find site, unusual, worthy of note etc.

I know this sounds crabby but honestly, I like quality over quantity. Feel free to ignore all of this advice.

Re: Video links

I agree with you 100%. The post with a You Tube vid, no context, no info, is a sure fire way to get me to press the mental 'IGNORE' button ...

sometimes i won't preface a video link w/ anything because sometimes the topic title is enough to tell you what the video's about. then sometimes i'll give the topic a title that's a bit more cryptic with the hopes that it might pique someone's curiosity. i guess that doesn't always work...

Re: Video links

I think people should use the board however they want. Users can filter for themselves and read/respond as they wish.

Nice idea you have regarding dedicated threads. That'd be useful...

It looks like there once was one

http://stereolab.co.uk/forum/stereolab/topic/62/threaded/442

But it is just a sea of clips. I can see why no-one posts there now as their clips go unrecognised. Having said that, maybe there is a reason a thread like this would die. It is just looking at other people's web browsing.

Trouble is, the threads soon disappear off page one and are lost forever!

Re: Video links

Unless it's a kitten walking on a piano or playing with yarn and falling over. That requires no explanation and is always welcome here and on all message boards everywhere.

I agree. if you don't know how to filter, forums (as antique as they apparently are) are not for you.

Those un-ending long threads get way to hard to navigate, you have to keep clicking the last page, the last page, the last page, the last page.

I think its set up like that intentionally as we all know the demise of the old forum was the twin towers of threads, Phill Collins and something nasty about laetitia. Its when those threads corrupted and crashed that the site was suddenly revamped and that data was lost.

It was advice, not rules. I guess it is just a courtesy thing. Of course, people can start threads about whatever they want. I could start one called "best albums of 2009" but there is already one started. There is no rule against starting one but the advice would be "don't bother". I suppose I was advising people in ways to make the forum better, in my opinion.

Perhaps so but getting to the last page is not so hard. If it is so, perhaps all topics should be deleted after they go onto the second page? Of course, people want to keep topics for some reason, but why? If accessing pages that are not the first page is so hard, why keep topics? I suppose if it is worthwhile, people will seek it out.

Anyway, another possibility is to have a code in the title e.g. (VL) = videolink. Or (VLNP) = video link without a point being made. Or (EFVL) = Easily found video link.

No. There is a "search" function and you can click page 2, 3, 4 etc. It really is easy
