Japanese Music

So, the Japanese love western music. I figure they have great taste in music, and therefore make some great music. How d'ya find it?

I know one cool band - Number Girl.

Any recommendations?

Re: Japanese Music

Cornelius and Buffalo Daughter are two. Their stuff varies but I like a few albums. Plus all the kitschy lounge stuff, check out the lounge thread.

You should know these are pretty old mixes, but I still listen to the heavy mix. Buffalo Daughter's Ivory is one of my favorite songs. The light mix is kitschy and silly but has a few great songs.

OOIOO

Yoshimi P-we is one of the most prolific and talented performers around. I think OOIOO is near the best work she does. It is a mix of tribal, noise, pop and who knows what else.
Both of these are cool videos but not necessarily their best music. Umo is good and the album it comes off (Taiga) is one of their best.

Maybe skip the first 30 seconds of high pitch noise

Yoshimi and Yuka

This 2003 release on Ipecac (Mike pattons label) is one of my favourite albums. Very mellow, great to drift off to sleep.

It is Yoshimi (OOIOO, Boredoms, Free Kitten, Yoshimio and more) and Yuka Honda (Cibo Matto)
