To some extent I would agree that you should go with whatever floats your boat as far as enjoyment goes.

I guess my point is that she doesn't really piss me off. Until about 3 months ago I had never heard her songs and I believe I could have continued that way had i not sought it out. My thing is that she is about as provocative as the class clown. She has neither wit nor insight. She is as subversive as a serial killer or mass murderer. She has the philosopical rebellion of a rabid dog. I imagine if I were a parent I would not want my children watching her because I think she is just trash. It is not like Bob Dylan challenging social morality with an alternative philosophy. She challenges social morality with hedonism as an unconscious philosophy rather than an articulated vision.
I think the lack of vision in Madonna has been exposed over time and she too has been shown up as a simple hedonist. As she gyrates around in a leotard at age fifty, desperately cutting her body to remain "beautiful", she has shown herself to be a one trick pony. Rather than proving the claim that she was empowered by sexing it up, that this "provocative" beaviour gave her control over men, time has shown that she was the one enslaved by the public gaze.
