Alternative Rock?

I can't decide.

I have a genre titled Stereolab!

Besides Stereolab, it includes High Llamas, McCarthy, Monade, Turn On, all the split singles, etc.

It is big enough to warrant it's own genre, no?

Yes, nice idea.

I need to get the Project. Is it still available for a well thought out gift?

Re: How do you classify Stereolab?

generally aren't they defined as "post-rock" the most?

Of course I think WAY more of them. More than words can say really.

Re: How do you classify Stereolab?

I've always carried a grudge against record stores that divide their stock into too many genres - as though a strict line of racial segregation needs to be maintained between Justin Timberlake and R Kelly, or the first Caribou/Manitoba album belongs in one aisle, while his latest belongs in another...

Out of spite, I classify the vast majority of my music into a single "pop" genre.

Re: How do you classify Stereolab?

Agreed. Though I don't mind, if they feel the need to segregate, having a special section for "Indie" labels.

Re: How do you classify Stereolab?

The best term I've heard is "postmodern pop". Although simply "art pop" sounds better to me.
