Just got back from a trip to California, with an obligatory visit to Amoeba Music - Hollywood location. After just standing dumfounded in one of the aisles just trying desperately to remember the mental list I worked on while stuck in traffic, I got: Europa 51 (Simon Johns/Andy Ramsay/Mary Hansen/some folks from High Llamas) The Sea and Cake, Oui Stereolab, Aluminum Tunes (2 CD set, not the super-fancy vinyl set) Pram, Helium Stereolab, ABC Music Pram, North Pole Radio Station Tom Waits, Frank's Wild Years I walked around with a couple of Tortoise albums but ended up putting them down because they were kinda pricey (no used ones other than TNT, which I already own). I was really impressed with the used section for Stereolab - it seemed like they had at least one copy of everything, and for some reason lots of copies of Oscillons (which I would never trade in). I also love it when the staff actually know enough to file side-projects with the main group stuff (I had know idea Europa 51 existed!). ............................................... Nice selection! I love Amoeba, I live near two of them (SF and Berkeley) but don't go anywhere near often enough. |

When I was in LA a few years back(2007) I made a trip to Amoeba, with my keyboard genius friend Matt(plays with genesis tribute bands). I lost my mind and spent wayyyyy to much money. I walked out of there with what must of been like 70 pounds of vinyl.HAHAHA!!!! |

If you're ever in Chicago, you must visit "Reckless Records" in Wicker Park or Broadway/Belmont, it's very similar (although their Stereolab vinyl sells fast). |

I have no problem with Reckless, I do most of my shopping with them since I am so close, but Amoeba, to me, was much much much better in terms of selection. I *heart* Amoeba. |
