I like rustic ramshackle architecture

ya know like those old wooden houses they have in those Russian boreal towns...

or those old concrete Cuban houses....

or shotgun shacks in the deep south

or those red brick row houses in the north american north east

what do they have in common?

I'll say they are modest in size, they have subtle but not overly ornate artisnal touches, they all predate modern style architecture, and they are all in walkable neighborhoods... something like that ...

Re: I like rustic ramshackle architecture

I love sheet metal. My family sold sheet metal and roofing in Florida. We had some of the 50's most fashionable sheet metal. It was puntured with decorative holes and was much sturdier than that shit they sell today.
One of my decorating schemes is a "house" with the walls fortified with the decorative sheet metal I've been fortunate enough to be acquainted with. It's kitsch and tacky. It's probably shit on the acoustics. you can do some interesting things with sheet metal, laser punch cutting. I should pitch some of these ideas being that I still have holdings in sheet metal.

Re: I like rustic ramshackle architecture

A historic neighborhood exults qualities that are essential to people, that is, a sense of comfort, modesty and a reassurance that we have a link to our past that we can actually see and touch.

Re: I like rustic ramshackle architecture

I think it has a bad image. but it can make a lovely decorative fence or car port with lots of privacy. It's more durable than wood, easier to decorate or paint, it's punch malleable, great for a car port or setting up a makeshift storage area. It definitely is a southern element. but it doesn't always have to be trashy. I love the stuff. It's versatile and has a lot of potential.

Re: I like rustic ramshackle architecture

the sheet metal we used back then was better and stronger than the metal used to make cars today. I understand the progression rudimentary ergonomics.

Re: I like rustic ramshackle architecture

I just adore sheet metal. :,)
I love adobe too. they don't build houses like they used too back in our day. You need walls that are 4-5 inches thick minimum-solid. That makes it difficult for the wiring and the plumbing. Interesting. I wish I had my grandpa to explain all these things to me. he was into building safe homes, disaster proof homes. I miss him so much.

Re: I like rustic ramshackle architecture

Perhaps, but that doesn't justify a rant of bleepin' sheet metal.
