hahahaha! These teachers got what they deserved. I heard they canned the principal too. lmao http://www.businessinsider.com/henry-blodget-unionized-rhode-island-teachers-refuse-to-work-25-minutes-more-per-day-so-town-fires-all-of-them-2010-2 Excerpts: A school superintendent in Rhode Island is trying to fix an abysmally bad school system. Her plan calls for teachers at a local high school to work 25 minutes longer per day, each lunch with students once in a while, and help with tutoring. The teachers' union has refused to accept these apparently onerous demands. The teachers at the high school make $70,000-$78,000, as compared to a median income in the town of $22,000. This exemplifies a nationwide trend in which public sector workers make far more than their private-sector counterparts (with better benefits). The school superintendent has responded to the union's stubbornness by firing every teacher and administrator at the school. (2) Apparently 50% of the students at the school are failing all of their classes, and the graduation rate is also under 50%. ............................................... What are the private sector counterparts of teachers, you idiot? And where exactly do public sector workers make more than private sector workers? Do you ever know what the hell you're talking about? Why don't you just do yourself a favor and shut the fuck up.

uh, not to take BOTE's side, but the Federal government is the United States largest employer. Many of those are high paying public sector jobs, thank goodness. Have you ever considered a career move to the federal government? I highly recommend it.

I can point you to public employee salary schedules, across the board their salaries are lower than their private sector counterparts. So go ahead and take bote's side and be WRONG all you want.

Around here in northern CA many of the private schools follow the public school salary schedule, until they hit a ceiling they can't go above unless they are willing to charge more than they want to. I might say to BOTE, not that I want to engage BOTE in conversation... but teaching is a profession not just a job. You should be comparing them to other masters degree professions, of which they are probably more poorly paid than any. Not that I would defend the teachers in this case, as I think they could have done more to help considering the low income community they work in. But they didn't necessarily get good advice from their union. But to laugh your ass off at teachers being fired is stupid. Not to mention having a full new teaching staff would most likely hurt the students and school. Teachers can't fix everything wrong in a community. But they can be blamed for it.

Hey- don't "bub" me. I'm not taking Bote's side. I've known plenty of people in the public sector who've made a decent living the difference is working for the federal government instead of a municipality or a state. If you think the private sector employees make so much money, then go get a job in the private sector and see for yourself what kind of problems those jobs engender. Trust me, you'll be running back to your public job within a year.
