Faust

could someone make it clear to me - which albums by Faust should I have? Excluding live, remastered stuff, collaborations etc..

It's all mixed up, just looked at their discography on wiki, it's damn huge!
Looks like first five LPs are considered their best?

Faust (1971)
Faust So Far (1972)
The Faust Tapes (1973)
Faust IV (1974)
Faust 5 (1975)

"So Far" and "IV" are definitely the easiest to listen to. I'd start with those.

Their first album is excruciating nonsense - don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise. "71 Minutes of Faust" is basically like a remix album with alternate versions of their earlier stuff. Don't remember much about "Tapes" except that "J'ai mal aux Dents" will be stuck in your head for weeks...

Re: Faust

I reckon "The Wumme Years box set is a worthwhile purchase, they come up on ebay from time to time.

Re: Faust

The new (and last?) album is blinding. Faust Is Last.

Also, the first LP has its moments of genius. You need to get it on (clear) vinyl and give it a chance. It'll blow your mind!
