Re: steal this book/movie/song.

this very relevent article just posted five minutes ago on flavorwire.com -- it's great that such a debate can spark so much creativity from every corner of the market...

Re: steal this book/movie/song.

I can fathom it.
I don't think the artists make all that much money. I think that's more myth. Only a small handful of "creatures" in the entertainment industry make any money. and I think it was you mitchervan, that mentioned something about the absence of art when the motive of money is involved. I don't know if I agree with that, entirely.
I believe the artists are exploited and every time you buy their product they are abused a little more.
but an artist is an artist and born to create art so what are you going to do? you're going to buy the product.
but do I feel bad that millions of people are learning to entertain each other and ripping off the entertainment industry because they continue to produce insulting, moronic, sleazy, inferior products? No! a big hell to the No! This is a great artistic renaissance happening.

Re: steal this book/movie/song.

but I won't get my hopes up too high. I know there is always that media ceiling of limitation. and I'm not sad about it.

i think you're right, i might have said something along those lines. and i think i was wrong to have said it in such definite terms -- art is art, whether money is or is not a motivation. yes, it does change art's nature but it doesn't always nullify it's force or meaning.

and i agree w/ you -- this is an exciting time for art. a lot of us are uncomfortable w/ all of its uncertainty but that's exactly what excites me!

movie celebrities are what i consider glorified performance artists -- and they make way too much money and wield way too much influence. there's no myth to that. and with that monetary and social wealth comes an inflated and absurd sense of self-importance. i love to watch the oscars just to laugh at these people. the downfall of that ridiculous empire can't come soon enough...

Evolution?! lol

By that same note, the increasing use of processed and fatty foods in our diets is something to embrace. Afterall, it's becoming the norm and gives more options..ha Okay maybe I went a step too far. Yet people ripping a Metallica song aren't thinking of social-economic protest in the least bit. lmao

evolution hasn't always required premeditative thought. but in some cases, if you see something that threatens your life you do indeed, RUN.

but let's not compare apples and oranges...

I'm not an artist. I'm not running. I do recognize that money IS a factor for the artists to be able to carry on.

Re: steal this book/movie/song.

oh I wrote something else but it didn't post.

ten commandments say thou shalt not steal.

entertainment industry never stole anything from anyone! I mean come on, these are the people who charge $ 8.00 for .35 cents worth of popcorn. They have got to be on the up and up ;0

okay, so you're not an artist. that just makes you the other half of the equation, the spectator -- the money-provider. and as such, you are just as much involved in the process. and yeah, the money does help the artists carry on. but art can just as well get along w/out it...
