Not that anyone could ever replace the beloved Groop, but are there any newer bands out there you think sort of fulfill the Stereolab legacy?

Matthew Friedberger from the Fiery Furnaces has mentioned he really admires their experimental approach to making music.

But I think Animal Collective best fits the bill. They're prolific, restlessly experimental, and sorta dancey, just like the Groop.

What do you think?

i really don't like Animal Collective.

or Fiery Furnaces.

Re: Heirs to Stereolab

Agreed with Mars Rover - Animal Collective stinks.

I think the most interesting voice out there right now is Juana Molina's.

As for an "heir" to Stereolab... I just don't think there is one at the moment. Le Futur Pompiste might be if they became more prolific..?

I can't think of anyone who could fit the lab way of doing things as well as they did. None of the bands mentioned here would fit that bill.

Re: Heirs to Stereolab

I agree that the groups mentioned here don't fit the bill. You would need a conglomeration of the aforementioned. Le Futur Pompiste would need to be more creative. Perhaps the members of the groop once known as Sterolab will get something new going.
