apples and oranges wrote: What about these guys. Still Corners - www.myspace.com/stillcorners I don't think so, just listening to some songs off Remember Pepper. Reminds me a lot of Broadcast. French Kiss is a great song. Like comparing apples and pears perhaps, very subjective.

I don't really understand the concept. What is the criteria for being "the heir to stereolab"? What makes stereolab so special that they must live on forever? If there wasn't a stereolab before stereolab, why would there be one after? Do the kids need a stereolab? Why do you want another stereolab? Who was the next beatles? Jane's addiction? meatloaf? cast? michael bolton? def leppard? nirvana? raincoats? sundays? Milltown Brothers? Candy Flip? Racey? Musical Youth? Exhales... I think stereolab is / was stereolab and other bands are other bands. |

Oh, I didn't intend the question so seriously, I was really just trying to springboard a conversation about what new bands everybody was listening to, that's all. But just for fun, the main criteria for the heirs to The Groop, in my opinion, would be prolificness (putting out a lot of records), an experimental approach to pop music, and of course, great lyrics. Animal Collective's project is certainly different from Stereolab's, and The Fiery Furnaces are a brother/sister act, but for me, both fit the bill. |

I thought that might be the criteria but I had to laugh at some of the people in history that I I came up with. You are right, it is fun. Prior to and around the same time as Stereolab we had the mighty Butthole Surfers. They tick all your boxes but I guess not many would associate the two bands. Of course, I like them both. I guess it means anyone could be the heirs to Stereolab. Maybe Bohren und der Club of Gore. |
