Club 8 - The People's Record

It didn't really bowl me over when I first got it but now I'm really enjoying Club 8's "The People's Record". It's sort of Swedish Afro-pop or something.

I think you Stereolab fans will like it. Check it out on their MySpace --

Re: Club 8 - The People's Record

I am really into Club 8, but what I read about afro and Brazilian influences kept me from buying the record. I hate "world music".

I love Club 8 too, and was surprised when I heard the first single from this new album (it is such a new direction for them). Didn't love it right away, but it has really grown on me since.
BTW, have you heard "Let's Go Swimming" by Allo Darlin'? A beautifully simple perfect summer love song; it could easily be mistaken for Club 8:

If you like Club 8, check out the new Acid House Kings album. Some of the tracks sound a lot like the latest Club 8 stuff, some are more Belle & Sebastian meets Abba. There's also a healthy dose of 60's French pop, and even some faster beach music tunes. Overall a very fun, upbeat, clever record; perfect way to start spring and make our way to summer.
********TWEE WARNING-This music is very poppy, and on the lighter side of the spectrum***********
