Dear All, Laetitia will be playing a solo set in Manchester - October 3rd 2010. Cheerio, Pikey. This event takes place at Chethams’s Library, Long Millgate, M3 1SB. Tickets must be purchased in advance through Cornerhouse – in person, online or by phone (no booking fee). www.cornerhouse.org/laetitiasadier 0161 200 1500 Lætita Sadier, who along with composer Nick Powell created an inspired soundtrack for marxism today (prologue), is a member of the legendary post-rock outfit Stereolab. Renowned for audacious formal experiments in a wide range of musical styles and for the socio-political concerns which permeate their lyrics, Stereolab have historically been termed ‘Marxist pop.’ Since 2003 Sadier has been recording and releasing music with her side-project Monade. Her first solo album The Trip is due out on 27 September on Drag City. For the UK premiere of marxism today (prologue) and AND Festival, the French-born musician will perform an exclusive set in the Library where Marx and Engels famously researched what was later to become Das Kapital. ............................................... Thanks, Martin. Here's the correct URL for the Cornerhouse website: http://www.cornerhouse.org/events/info.aspx?ID=1777 Also, for those intrigued by the film Martin mentions, here's some links to web reviews from when it was shown in Berlin over the summer: http://rhizome.org/editorial/3640 http://art-agenda.com/agenda/view/55 (scroll down to the fourth paragraph or so) |

wonderful, an explanation. I've failed to comprehend the correlation between Stereolabs music and Marxism, aside from the obvious. This new layer of overt subtext should be fascinating and intriguing. Can't wait to hear it. I read the parts of the official marxism pamphlet, just the beginning. I need to read it through to end, a couple of times. But I have a lot of reading to catch up on, so, a musical synopsis by Stereolabs coleader will be excellent! That Marxism is old fashioned, the way they did things back in the day. |
