How about Irvine welsh, doesnt he write in [phoenetical] scottish?
I'm not too sure how exactly to describe Irvine Welsh. He writes the way that most Scots speak, ie a mixture of English and Scots, however most of his characters speak with a thick Edinburgh accent, and this he also incorporates. When the mood takes me, and I am with the appropriate people, that is about 95% of how I speak.
Needless to say, you can't really expect to get away with speaking like that to Canadians, or indeed anybody not living in or hailing from Scotland!
I actually love all of Irvine Welsh's work.
I believe Trainspotting was subtitled for its American release!
