Re: Eaten Horizons Or The Electrocution Of Rock

300 quid is way beyond my means, sadly.....

I think the most I've ever payed for a record about ?50, for the first Ash Ra Tempel LP (which was actually a really good bargain!). It came up a few years back in a Glasgow second hand store (Missing records), and seemed like a fortune at the time, but this was before everyone was using eBay I guess. The cover was just much too groovy for me to resist:

(( not my hand BTW, pics taken randomly from t'internet....! ))

Re: Eaten Horizons Or The Electrocution Of Rock

Could you please shed some light on the track: NWW Drone Instrumental

How long is this track? Is it Stereolab by themselves or is it a joint venture with Nurse With Wound? I'm guessing it's from Switched On / Stereoheadphone Mind session?

Re: Eaten Horizons Or The Electrocution Of Rock

It's 2.01 in length. My guess is it's a demo Tim did in anticipation of the NWW sessions. It is a drone with some Velvet Underground-esque guitar playing on top. If you email me I will send you it.

Unless you have 300 quid to spare (lucky you, what with the crisis and all), unless you're definitely keen on actually owning the physical artifact, and unless Duophonic launch a release "for human beings" of this reference, write me at kamennedev at gmaildotcom.

When it was released by EN/OF (as promoted on the forum), the album was ?100, wasn't it?

For any long term labbyite (but for only 25-28 owners of the spectrum/lab split), all the demos/versions would have been owned in their original formats, I think.

So, to include the album with a print (which for me was/is), by an obscure photographer/artist (and upon whatever the quality of the media on which it was printed), seems like an odd 'collectible' investment for either the admirers of the shutterbug or of ver lab.

Bottrop-boy sold them all though, and I see this particular copy sold for ?225 Buy it now on Ebay. So, there are clearly lab collectors (disparagingly known as 'completist' in some quarters), viewing the 'physical artifact' (in your words) as desirable.

But I'm with your point about "for human beings", because I'm sure that most of us are in it purely for the music. I mean, I heard of some First Edition USA Charles Long & Stereolab MftABSC white cover CDs being sold at a record fair in London (circa '95 or '96), and pieces of the actual sculpture were stuck to the inner side of the JC. Now this, to my knowledge, was not a legitimate band approved release, but is it still collectible/desirable, did the sculpture really have that much to do with the music? More to the point, do they actually exist, or was I having my chain yanked? :-)

Someone just won the Ebay bid on an Abbey Rd acetate of Ping Pong - but, with the exception of the Abbey Rd logo, it is exactly the same as the legitimate release. Was it worth ?64? The buyer clearly thought so, I wonder why?

I don't know, why would Duophonic release the demos in larger 'human being' quantities for us mere mortals other than to generate incom? I have all of the early 7"s bought at the time at real life prices; but the best releases were the album compilations of them for uninterrupted listening - bliss.

Hell, sorry, I've waffled on a bit - ?300 (?225), jeyzus, that's a month's rent for some! Looking at Ebay recently I thought that the bottom was falling out of the lab market: clearly, I'm wrong.

Does anybody on the forum own this? Is the Tone Burst demo the same version (country) that's on Refried? Certainly the Refried sleevenotes refer to a proposed Spectrum split??!!
