It doesn't matter who is posting it, they are not classic. Like I said in another post, don't take it personally. Unless you are Rivers Cuomo or Billy Corgan, no one is judging you.

Weezer is not classic, no matter who thinks they are.

I'm not serious about Weezer. lol I'm barely a fan. My real message was days ago. I posted in case that counts.

Some of these bands elicit a "who the fuck are they" so not classic, imo:
Girlschool
Venom
Budgie
Tiger Lillies
Dropkick Murphys
The Reverend Horton Heat
The New Pornographers
The View
The Go! Team
The Grates
Arcade Fire
Mariza
Katie Melua

The Groop are arguably the ultimate cult band. They approach classicism, as they've, at times, transcended whatever genre they might be in, they are iconic, influential, they've had a long career...but, I know to a large part of the population, they'd still elicit a "Who the fuck are they?"

One thing which I failed to contradict was that many people would question who the above bands/artists were. I take Squirrel's point with some of the above, but do have to say that Mariza should be considered a 'classic'. Just because Squirrel and the pop music public have no idea who she is, does not in it self bar her from being considered as 'classic'.
She is currently the most well known Portuguese Fado singer, and is in demand the World over. I saw her perform at the Royal Albert Hall. It was packed, and tickets sold out very quickly. They don't let any old unknown perform at that venue.

I passed on this one:

Nirvana '91, right before Nevermind broke. I had free tickets to the show and just didn't feel like going. Gave them to a friend (now the missus). She hung out & talked with them for a while and then saw the show. I've never lost any sleep over this but it is a regret, since I had no reason not to go. Oh well.

hahaha!

That explains why I've seen definite non-classics like: Sarah McLachlan, Coldplay, U2.

Oh...and also (for the same reason) i saw John Mayer (*shutters*) the Grateful Dead, No Doubt, The Smashing Pumpkins and probably some more i'm blocking from my memory.

Some "classics" i actually enjoyed seeing, and went to see regardless of the promise of gettin' it on:

Beck
Sonic Youth
Neil Young
* Air, Stereolab, Tortoise, Broadcast, and Blonde Redhead are all classics to me too.

Sorry. I couldn't resist, but I should have tried harder. Some of it was the truth!

Sorry folks, the following bands just don't qualify:

There's absolutely nothing factual in your reasoning, asshole.

Whether a band can be considered classic or not is purely subjective. While you can give a number of reasons why (lets say) NIN or Smashing Pumpkins are not classics, one could easily give as many reasons why they are classics.

Now shut-up, you overbearing prig.

Pointing the hypocrisy is reason enough.
