...then take bread.

"Necessity knows no law, and the starving man has a natural right to a share of his neighbor's bread.

Ask for work. If they do not give you work, ask for bread. If they do not give you work or bread, then take bread."

Emma Goldman

Even though these words were told some 100 years ago, they speak a timeless truth.

Even though it's against the law, stealing food is morally acceptable if one is left with no other choice.

I think this reasoning could be applied further.

Subsistence is just one of the many fundamental human needs.

If one can't satisfy his fundamental needs in a legal way, then satisfying them illegally would still be morally acceptable.

If too many people can't satisfy their fundamental needs in a legal way, then the laws and the rules of society are wrong.

Does it make me a smart-ass to ask who "they" are? I agree with her sentiment to a certain extent - but the crux of the biscuit here is FROM WHOM one ought to take bread. Desperate folks tend to go for the easiest targets, and easy targets are rarely the most deserving.

Re: ...then take bread.

Sure.

I'm glad I've never been in that situation, but certainly it is morally acceptable (in my eyes) to steal food if you can't get food by any other means and the society around you has an abundance of it, like the US, or similar countries. If nobody in your society has food, well, I guess there's be nobody to steal from.
