Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi, a bad back's no fun at all is it?
I was getting increasing pain and discomfort so finally went and had an MRI scan at Treliske, the results showed that some of my discs had worn away near the base of my spine and this causes the nerves to get trapped, hence the pain which is very similar to toothache, I do have strong painkillers which I am grateful for as they make it more manageable, I make a point of giving thanks to God for all things even when they appear bad as I'm sure He has a reason for everything, I love things to be simple and cherish the peace of mind which I find through my faith in Him.
Yes, it'll be great to meet up sometime, take care and God bless you, Joe.

Re: Introduce Yourself

Although I haven't contributed much of late, I thought it would be good to join in.
Name's Rob, 39, living in Weston-super-Mare, UK. The town is referred to as Weston-super-Mud due to its miles of gloriously golden sandy beaches.
Married with two lovely daughters, 3 and 6, and a third on the way.
I am an ESOL/Literacy teacher, currently resting between assignments. This week I have been mostly decorating. Job lined up for November, Istanbul.
I find that all my musical tastes tend to be bracketed fairly comfortably within those of others on this forum whose knowledge advances well beyond my own -it's a great place to seek musical inspiration, try out new stuff.
I am now ploughing through the final volume of Stieg Larsson's Millenium Trilogy, and am liking it lots.
Bollocks, I'm boring myself a bit here, so that will have to do.
Thanks.

Re: Introduce Yourself

I'm Slushy. I won't say my age. I come from a military family, my father was a drill sergeant and he's played trumpet for over 50 yrs.
Me I'm a choreographer and a songwriter with two children. Currently I reside in the sticks because I seem to thrive here and I prefer the privacy and the laid back, friendly manner of the people.
I enjoy reading (esp. philosophy) listening to classical and jazz some pop, I listen to the college radio to stay current and I enjoy writing songs or trying to write songs and of course my job which is creating ballets.
I also enjoy reading wikipedia.

First heard Lab in a movie theatre in 2000 while waiting for movie. Refractions. Was absolutely on a mission to find out who this band was felt like I had finally found music that epitomized my pop music ideals and I was absolutely right about that. I don't know how I missed them during the '90s; glad I finally found them. I think they are the best band ever.

Hey Joe, the spit of land would either be Sand Point or Brean Down -it is scenic, if staring over several miles of muddy water at Cardiff's your thing, but give me Cornwall any day. Went down to the Eden Project last year -fantastic countryside and coast around there; Mevagissey's very picturesque -that much I know.

To return to Weston: there's always some dumb brummie getting stuck in the mud and the tidal range is huge, the bed gradient shallow, so the risk of drowning consequently great. Most of them get plucked out before the sea gets them though, which is nice. We have a lovely new pier after the old one burned down, and a rather dashing square with restored fountain. Maybe time to pay another visit..?

Hope your back gets sorted -tough to be stuck with that long-term...

Re: Introduce Yourself

Our back problems are very similar. I've had many MRI scans on my back. I had a microdiscectomy in 2003. My lower two discs were bulging which rubbed the sciatic nerve causing severe pain all down the leg. Operation was on the second lowest disc but will probably need operation on lowest disc sometime in the future. When the pain is at its worst I need to take a combination of three painkillers but that only reduces the pain by half. Have had this problem on and off since 1985. Was caused by a fall on the ice in the winter. The longest continuous episode of the pain was 5 years from March 1999 to December 2003. Thankfully, things are ok at present, but it can change in an instant. Am off to Derriford in a week or two to see the specialist to review my situation.
