Re: How would you describe your musical taste?

Well Mu, I'm starting to like the idea of a cup of tea more and more.
As I was reading your post the music in my cd player was Six Cognitive Works by Kyle Bobby Dunn, a masterpiece in drone (to my ears anyway) Yesterday I was listening to all 5 of Stephan Mathieu's brilliant "Full Swing Edits" on 10" vinyl, I also enjoy a lot of Fennesz's work Black Sea in particular (quite frightening in places) I love Stars of the Lid and Brian Mcbride's solo outings too.
I love minimal / minimal ambient, if you notice a lot of the labels I mentioned in my list specialise in minimal electronic, drone, ambient and I.D.M.
Ian Hawgood, Celer, The Green Kingdom, Library Tapes, Sylvain Chauveau and Ezekiel Honig get played a lot as do
composers such as, Part, Glass, Gorecki, Reich and Budd.
So what particular artists in these fields are you in to?

I'm afraid I don't know how to put up links and stuff like that, I wish I did.
Youtube will have music by Stars of the Lid who are a great example of the minimal drone genre, very sleepy stuff but beautiful with it.......

I am a big fan of Drone/ambient, being originally initiated into it's dreamy realms in the early 1980s by the widely acknowledged progenitor of the genre - Mr B. Eno Esquire, late of Roxy music. I listen to Soma FM - 'The Drone Zone' on iTunes radio all the time and have quite a collection of it ripped from SomaFM, which I listen to whilst gliding through the Dutch countryside on the train - a truly magical experience sometimes with the big skies we have here...

I've been getting in to Celer a lot recently, Salvaged Violets, Brittle and the 2 Lp's on the Blackest Rainbow label, are you in to them?

I heard a track by Celer a while ago which had sound clips from the film 'The Third Man' (one of my all time favourite films) and I thought it was really 'film noir'. They are a bit too 'dark' for my taste but I do listen to them occasionally. Pity they are no more. Havent heard much of the Blackest Rainbow stuff, but I will seek it out now you have given a heads-up. Thanks Joe..

I listen to Anomalous Disturbances, Seconds Before Awakening, Steve Roach, Harold Budd, Brian Eno (of course), and Dutch Ambient Federation is doing some interesting things at the moment.Have you heard the thing the Orb did with Dave Gilmour? - it's main stream but there are some beautiful moments in there...

Re: How would you describe your musical taste?

No I've not heard the Orb/Gilmour one yet, I never really liked the Orb much even in their nineties heyday, I was more in to Orbital at the time, although I did like Okie Dokie on Kompakt.
I've got a problem with Pink Floyd related stuff (it's the lyrics I don't like lyrics much) I only like Atom Heart Mother (their masterpiece for me) and Meddle.
Love some Eno, especially "Thursday Afternoon" and just about everything Mr Budd has done, I've got 19 cds by him.
I've only got the Celer albums on Blackest Rainbow so can't rate the label beyond those, a label I highly rate is Home Normal at the moment, they release some gorgeous music in an electronic minimal ambient glitch and field recording kind of style, 2 cds in particular I would recommend are "Spectra of Air" by Taishi Kamiya, and "Unstable Equilibrium" by Isnaj Dui, both are very lovely indeed.
If you are interested in Celer's lighter side there is a lovely little 3 inch cd on the Taalem label called "All At Once Is What Eternity Is" which is not so dark, thanks Dara and (you know what's coming next) kind regards, Joe.

ecclectic

Stereolab, heavy metal, pop, rap, classical, jazz and spanish often in the same day. I feel sorry for people who feel the need to have only one genre or think it odd to embrace others.
