Kate Bush - 50 Words for Snow

Anyone heard or pick this up yet? I saw it was available on iTunes yesterday morning and decided I needed it for my bus ride to work. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It just snowed where I live so it’s all hazy, gray and white which totally suits the mood of this album. The songs are quite long, but it doesn’t bother me. There’s nothing forced or hurried about the songs so the length lets them breath and build. The title track is probably the fastest; something slightly witchy and wonderful about it. I really don’t care for the Elton John duet “Snowed in at Wheeler Street,” but I think it’s mostly because I don’t care for Elton John’s voice. Not so much for the lyrics either. The opening track “Snowflake” is my immediate favorite. It feels like the middle of a late, late January night looking out the window and seeing icy snow crystal sparkle in the moonlight. So calm.

I bought “Director’s Cut” earlier this year, but nothing really grabbed my attention other than the new song “Deeper Understanding” which I highly recommend. I was skeptical, yet intrigued when I heard she was releasing an album of all new material. I hope another comes along of this caliber sooner than later.
