Re: according to the bible...

The Bible says a lot of things, and not a lot makes a damn bit of sense. These were basically cave men wandering around the desert making stuff up. There are lots of better books out there, how come nobody ever brings up Don Quixote or Gravity's Rainbow?

It's really good, smart, funny, doesn't take itself so seriously but at the same time serious as a heart attack. Along with Journey to the End of Night, it's probably my favorite book. From what I've read of you here, I think you'd like it.

I am neither Christian, nor religious, but your interpretation of what the bible is is quite ignorant.

Re: according to the bible...

I was also talking about the "making stuff up." The Bible was not simply some fictional musings - so many of the stories already existed and were then adopted and altered to reflect the semitic world view.

Oh, I was just kidding, sort of. My real point was that the relevance of the bible to contemporary life is highly dubious, indeed this antiquated fixation is the source of many of our biggest problems today. What I was trying to point out was that the over-emphasis on biblical studies in the face of 2000 plus years of subsequent learning is more than a little ridiculous.

In my opinion the bible should be regarded in the same way we regard other ancient mythologies, like the Egyptian, Zoroastrian, or Greek mythologies, as interesting looks into mankind's mental development, but in no way a guide for contemporary life.
