As opposed to all those other ones you started?

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Seriously though, I think that 'guilty pleasures' are only for those who take peer group reaction to their music tastes too seriously.

I like 10CC, Samantha Fox, Ennio Morricone, Boney M, Holst, The Fall, Stereolab, The Goodies, records by the Muppets, Autechre et bloody cetera for pretty much the same reason - I like the sounds that they make.

Well put!

That said….I’ve been listening to Lady Gaga on an extremely regular basis for the better part of the last 2 years and don’t feel weird about it at all. Totally collect Muppets LP’s as well. : )

There are some really good Lady Gaga records. Not all of her stuff does it for me, but when she's good she's very bloody good indeed. And she can play jazz piano with her foot!

Only got the first two Muppets LPs, but I do play them quite a bit. And Cookie Monster records are also a bit of a winner for me.

I never feel guilty about listening to radio-friendly pop music - doesn't matter if it comes from U2 or Robyn or Color Me Badd.

However, sometimes I do feel the need to EXPLAIN some of the nerdier music in my collection: smooth 70s jazz, prog wankery, distant branches of the krautrock family tree, etc - the sort of stuff my friend would call "girl poison". It's as though I totally understand why someone would roll their eyes at the crap, and I just want to excuse myself by saying, "Oh, I don't really like this stuff either - but listen to that synth tone at the 12:00 mark!"
