Lyrebird rock: Best album from an era it was not recorded in

I was listening to Twin Shadow's "forget" today and thinking it was the best late eighties album I had heard. Of course, it was released in 2010 but it screams late eighties.

It reminded me of the fact that Stereolab's albums sound like they are the best French sixties or seventies albums that were recorded in the nineties.

It makes me think of the lyre bird. They are Australian birds that imitate other birds. They are very good at it, in fact so good that they are often better at the bird they are imitating than the bird itself. This is definitely the case for some albums. They are better at the eighties or seventies or sixties than anything that came from the era.
