All-time Overrated Albums

Abbey Road (The Beatles). Best thing about it, the collage where they shorten the corny songs.

Axis Bold As Love (Jimi Hendrix). Watered down Hendrix sucks. Every time the other guys sing..Just pass the mic back. :(

Pantera. All of them.

Re: All-time Overrated Albums

I can't think of anything that anyone says they like but they don't actually like. I assume that if people like a record, they probably rate it highly.

Rating is done by individuals. The collection of their ratings can seem an overrating to those who don't like it but it is important to remember that people don't rate with others in mind.

I don't like Bon Iver's supposed masterpiece from last year but others do. I don't like that Kanye record that was supposedly a mantelpiece but others can't get enough.

I like Abbey Road and Axis Bold as Love. I don't like Pantera but they knew where their money was coming from; testosterone fuelled angry lads.

I can't think of a single record that is an appalling example of its genre that is rated highly.

Abbey Road is a masterpiece of a pop album. Evidence to the claim that the Beatles were the greatest band ever.

I`ve never heard an album where every note was EXACTLY where it should be. Abbey Road IS music.

This album can be endlessly deconstructed. Try starting with Paul`s bass playing.... he wrote the book

Oh man, I so love that Kanye album, but understand why people have such issues with it.

What comes to my mind first is that Modest Mouse album “Good News For People Who Love Bad News.” I really enjoyed it for about 3 weeks and then it annoyed the shit out of me from that point on. I couldn’t go anywhere in Minneapolis without hearing it for at least a year or so. Same with that break-out Arcade Fire album. Ugh.

I'm with you up to a certain point - that album had a few really good songs on it, but some of the tracks were so damn-near unlistenable that it's really hard to fathom how it got as popular as it did. Imagine how many people willingly sat through multiple listens of weird-ass shit like "The Devil's Workday" and try to tell me that band doesn't deserve respect for drawing folks into their bizarre sonic universe. I kind of love it when genuinely strange bands like Nirvana, Crystal Castles, (early) Beck, etc. manage to convince the world that their strangeness is the new norm.

Re: All-time Overrated Albums

Yeah. I'm with you: I'm not much of a Beatles fan, but Abbey Road is solid genius from beginning to end. It blew me away when I was like 10 years old, and I still find it fascinating.
