Re: 2012 Election Predictions?

What's bothering me is the news report that 90 % of the Americans who are not going to vote say they would have voted for Obama. That sucks on two levels.

I know all the cool kids vote for Obama, however.... I'd be interested to hear peoples opinion of policies, brought in by Obama, that earn him a second term. Also, what policies of Romney are folks wary of?

The older I get the more I don't think it matters to me (Mr Average) who's in power.

The list is very long. I will try to get to it soon-ish. I have been wanting to write up something for my niece. Let's just start with the fact that Romney changes his position on just about everything and appears like a pathological liar. All politicians fudge and lie, but his mendacity is so extreme, and has been very thoroughly documented.

If you are a woman, this election is very important. The "war on women" may sound like an exaggeration, but it is absolutely not. Most women I know feel this acutely.

That's exactly the sort of thing that I was saying during the Bush-Gore election - and boy was I wrong...

What has Obama done?

Health Care:
He pushed through a bill for universal health care. It's a bit of a bullshit compromise, but it's still a lot better than what any of his predecessors managed to accomplish.

Economy:
He provided a government bail-out and managed bankruptcy for that saved Chrystler and GM.

Environment:
He procured funding for renewable energy research, though he had to pretend it was 'economic stimulus' in order to get it through congress.

National Security:
He's been intelligent (ramping up funding for cybersecurity), cautious (staying out of Syria), and occasionally ruthless (murdering Gadaffi and Bin Laden) - in short: the kind of guy you want on your side.

Gay Rights:
He's allowed gays to serve openly in the military, he's provided vocal support for gay marriage, and he's put two lesbians on the Supreme Court.

As for Romney: David Brooks wrote a good article a while ago in which he lamented that the only time Mitt Romney has shown any backbone or consistency in his entire political career has been in the defense of his personal financial information. You have to admit that it seems to be an oddly telling bit of behavior.

More than that, he kept our economy from collapsing as bad as it would have, although some say the stimulous wasn't as large as it should have been.

Also, since 2009, he's cut the defecit by 22%, but obviously we have a long way to go to get out of the mess that the Republican party left us.

So it's a fait d'accompli that Obama will win?

Re: 2012 Election Predictions?

I think Obama's going to win because Romney has the magical underwear. My bf is mormon and he has the magical underwear and it is S-E-X-Y. It looks like a Coney Island swim suit circa 1910 it's f'n rad. so decent I love it. You can drive in it. It's invincible.
It's Muslim vs. Mormon.
whatever I'm 3rd party 4 more years Nader please run again

Re: 2012 Election Predictions?

He pays me to wash his magical underwear. It's blessed in Salt Lake City and if I bleach it it - it loses it's power. I love it cause it's so old fashioned. It really is fashionable and definitely the inspiration for Calvin Klein/Markie Mark.
