One to add to bands that named themselves after Stereolab songs - have we made such a list on here?

A comprehensive list would be good... maybe we need an updated fan site or something for this sort of thing, to continue where Koly left off.

5 yrs ago, I posted this sound-alike ripoff:

It's already been noted in the 'Origins' series that this song - or at least the main riff - is similar to Transoma Five. Maybe this is the version that inspired it. (I'm not sure whether I love or hate this act - bit of both I think).

I would say the Canned Heat Version is closer....

Try synching up the two vids, it's "un-canny" :)

Yes, a mix of Stereolab-alike tracks would be interesting. Someone posted a (live) band playing a track just called 'Tim Gane' on here recently. I know that here have been several others posted over the years - Modular maybe? Although I seem to recall they were perhaps more High Llamas soundalikes.

C'mon people lets get us a list going...

Hee hee, it's Glider! Old pals of mine from Glasgow, in fact I used to be in a folk band with the flute player :) Saw them many times over the years, they've been going in one form or another since I think mid-90s, and earlier incarnations under different names even further back....one of which featured Mr Gareth Dickson, whose music I know Harold has enjoyed :) As you would expect from a band named after an MBV track, shoegaze was the main inspiration. But also all big fans of the groop, as well as being a fine bunch of people :)

Minimum Chips from Brisbane were very groop influenced, they have been mentioned many times here over the years, and are one of the few I actually enjoyed (very much).

They've been posted here and there. I believe you did the Percolator - Yellow Fire one (a song I adore and still listen to)

I posted a blatant Polish Lab knock off but I forgot the name.

There's Les Yper-Sound and The Free Design - but unless some sort of space time vortex was involved (which can't be totally ruled out), they both existed first and the groop did songs named after them. I'm sure there are more out there...

Oh and of course The Groop.

Oh (he says, replying to his own question from simply ages ago), there's also Moogie Wonderland: http://moogiewonderland.co.uk some sort of DJ/performance art thingy based in Cornwall.
