For me, it was the way Laetitia combined the metaphysical and the political in a positive, forward-thinking utopian vision. Listening to a Stereolab song and paying attention to the lyrics gave me a glimpse of hopeand truth in a way that you seldom find in rock music. That seems to have passed, though, as Laetitia grew and became more a little more cynical. But her lyrics still make keen observations. They say that every idealist becomes a pessimist. I don't think that's true, though. ............................................... Re: What first attracted you about Stereolab? (Jasonspaceman) Re: What first attracted you about Stereolab? I think it was the experimental nature of the sounds and the way they fit together, the noises, definitely not the lyrics, I don't pay attention to lyrics much, especially in the beginning... once I get to know a band more, I'll look into lyrics. Is that a run on sentence?

the detached, but beautiful vocals. Metronomic Underground was like nothing I'd ever heard before.

A year earlier I had heard some tracks from MAQ and found them boring, so I didn't purchase any Stereolab that year.

i didn't find stereolab man, stereolab found me! i was turned onto them first at a live show in 2000. Never heard anything by them beforehand. i was attracted to the electronic noises and how they made them sound so 3d in the venue. They bounced around the walls. Never heard anything like it up to that point. i was hooked.
