It's surprising to me to see how frequently I'm "shushed", essentially, for saying the things I am. Shouted at. Told to go away, like a kid who showed up at the wrong clubhouse.

What particularly bothers me is that the key tenets of the "fragment" I referred to above are often put forward as those virtues I listed in the OP - open-mindedness, intelligent dissent and debate, etc.

You would think an environment like that would encourage viewpoints like mine - because they stray from the norm.

I've found that not to be the case. For years, now, in fact. With some exceptions, I'll grant you.

You are making a generalization about years of being on the forum, based in the present moment of one person who got into it with you in an obnoxious way on one other thread. If you say something someone disagrees with, you will probably be called on it by someone. I don't agree with the obnoxious tactics of photophreak. But this thread sounds insulting to the group, and lumping us all in with him.

We wouldn't be here if we didn't love Stereolab, and some of us perhaps think the members of the group can do no wrong. I myself might be inclined to defend them, but I'm not saying I agree with everything. But anyway, it's a little weird to go after a member of the band's political beliefs in their own band's forum, when she's worn her beliefs (in one way or another) on her sleeve in her music the entire time she's been making music.

What I mean by weird is, that I wonder if you like her lyrics and thoughts in her music. Surprising to see you here if you don't. I know many of her lyrics are cryptic, but not all.

Re: Why such political uniformity here?

What was so obnoxious about patiently schooling the shit out of someone who was far more obnoxious in taking an ignorant, arrogant, insulting crap on Laetitia's eloquent and sincere opinions? Fuck vivakomeda, who has done nothing to deserve the respect you're affording, who hasn't matured one iota in several years, who richly deserves the derision. No one owes vivakomeda anything but scorn.

Re: Why such political uniformity here?

I often have admired her lyrics, moreso in the Stereolab days than of late. But even now a track or two still work - "find me the pulse", for example. Sadier has a talent for language, and almost a poetic quality at times that works well in song.

The political stuff is a pollutant, but yes, I can still look at a song (say the flower called nowhere, or velvet water) today and admire it very much standalone.

There you have it. Couldn't have asked for a better illustration of my point.

Do people agree with PhotoPhreak?

Re: Why such political uniformity here?

This is not a generalisation CP. This has been reasonably consistent over the years.

Yes, there have been exceptions. Thomas in particular seems like a kind soul. And in your case, I know and understand you disagree with many things I type, but at least I can see sincerity and thoughtfulness in your comments.

But the fairly large majority of posters over the years have been in the PP vein. I participate in other forums, and none are so "ideologically consistent" (for want of a better term). And none even approach the level of hateful snark we see here.

And in a bloody stereolab forum !?

Re: Why such political uniformity here?

Not a bad question. I guess it's because I've been coming here for years, and as the music has faded the other stuff gets more prominent in my eyes.

Re: Why such political uniformity here?

Your tone now is a disingenuous crock of shit. But even now, you can't help being a troll with "the political stuff is a pollutant". You expect people to be respectful to you when you're a sniveling clueless twerp who can't be bothered to try? Oh, except for when you're laying on the phony passive-aggressive charm as you are now, in your troll quest to milk as much attention as possible, playing the poor-me defensive act, which is sociopathic horseshit.

What "vein"? Ideologically consistent? ME? Are you fucking kidding me? I'm one of the most ideologically INCONSISTENT people alive, and you must not have understood a single word of the hundreds of sincere and thoughtful words I typed. Can you read? Can you think? Are you brain damaged? Or are you just a useless pissant who likes getting a rise out of people by writing obviously false nonsense that you don't even spend two minutes contemplating, nonsense which -- if it applies to anyone -- APPLIES TO YOU. You, are the ideologically consistent deliverer of hateful snark. You, are the ignorant one. The childish pamphleteer. YOU, ARE A TROLL.

Do the rest of you not realize that? You are being trolled by vivakomeda. You have been trolled by vivakomeda for years. You owe vivakomeda nothing but scorn or, better yet, indifference.

Solution: STOP COMING HERE. Go post SOMEWHERE ELSE, where people are LESS THOUGHTFUL, like you are. Go somewhere where people have gravitated to a band with lyrics that better reflect your poorly-informed, barely-developed worldview. May I suggest a Kid Rock forum?

"I participate in other forums..."

Great. BOTHER THEM.
