Re: Stereo Lab - Dots and Loops

The Fall peel session box is great... if only for the version of Blindness, which is killer - much better than the album (reminds of the time I saw them playing it live around a year before it was released - great energy in that performance)

There was meant to be a 4LP release of this release but for some reason it never materialised. Anybody know why?

no idea, it's strange considering the groop always released everything on vinyl ... maybe the strange fruit people didn't want to spend the money on a 4LP (or 5LP with 1997 session?) package without knowing if it would sell. perhaps if Duophonic had the rights to the sessions they would have released it back in the day ...

Little bit disappointing that it was a CD only release, perhaps they felt there wasn't enough demand for vinyl...?

this might be the reason, vinyl sales were low during that time. I think Duophonic pressed 7000 copies of Cobra on vinyl but only 3000 of Sound-Dust (1200 hardbook version, 1800 standard version)

releasing a 4 or 5 LP package with poor sales wouldn't make much sense back then

Re: Stereo Lab - Dots and Loops

I have a vague - maybe imagined - recollection that the D&L stuff was excluded from ABC because they deemed the tapes not up to par sound-wise for that release.

The surviving recordings sound ok to me, but that's what I recall anyway.

Re: Stereo Lab - Dots and Loops

Random fact: "I Feel The Air" was an outtake from the D&L sessions that obviously surfaced later.

Of interest as that is one of their more outstanding and peculiar tracks.

Re: Stereo Lab - Dots and Loops

Go get the "Miss Modular" EP too from that tiem - contains three of their best B Sides ever imo.

Allures is an interesting riff on Donna Summer's "Theme from the Deep"", and Off-ON ranks alongside I feel the Air for sheer weirdness (in a good way)

I adore this album. I was curious if there were any cool facts about this album or if there were any interviews from the band discussing the making of this masterpiece.
