ME is a good album and all, but for me the classic groop period is Transient thru Sound Dust. ETK is slap bang on the "Crest" of that wave.

Re: ETK vs ME

Tough comparison, two great but very different albums and eras.

1990-95: early period lab
1996-2001: middle period (and best!) lab
2002-2010: late period lab

Re: ETK vs ME

What inspired me to do this thread was listening to both these albums from start to finish. I usually don't listen to whole albums.

At this risk of sounding fan boyish but to be honest - I just find it almost stupid how this band was able to churn out the melodies song after song. It's exhausting - in the best possibly way.

In my brain I put Dots through ME in the same period. I put ETK as sort of a transition album.

I agree with this, except I would start the middle period at 1995 with the amorphous body study center ep, which gave the indication about a new sound direction, and end it in 2002 with the passing of Mary

I think every album was a transition.

The only two albums that sound alike are Peng! and Switched On - and of course SO is a comp.
