Wow - brilliant post. Nice to get the complete low-down on the hallowed Spectrum/Stereolab split. Now all I need to do is get one! By the way, is it a 'holy grail' of Spiritualized fans? Or is it largely unknown? |

I know a few Spiritualized fans are after a copy but then they tend to be Spacemen 3 and related completists. People occasionally ask if one is for sale on that forum. I don't know what copies go for now but when they do it's obviously a very rare occasion. The Spectrum track appeared on a Volume magazine promotional CD and I know at least one of the Lab tracks was on Refried Ectoplasm. Not sure abnout the other... Mark |

Hi Mark, Thanks for the extra info. I am making a book similar to this discography (http://www.stereolab.streamlinenettrial.co.uk/) and would love to include your story in it. Would you mind? Who knows, one day it might be for sale on the reunion tour. ;) Limited to 25 copies, of course. ;) Basil PS Thanks for the Spiritualized forum info, see ya there. I saw them at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen a few years back with about 200 people and was blown away with how good they are live. I think they are better live than in the studio (of course most drone is). Are you a FSA fan? |

Hi Basil, No that's fine. Please feel free to include the story - I'd be delighted. I know there are a lot of myths about this single as the original thread shows. I'm happy that I instigated the whole thing and feel proud to have played a part in what is now a legendary collectors item. Pete K knew what an obsessive collector I was and he didn't tell me about the existence of the 3 tests for a while, but after my hassling him the project took shape. It's odd to think that I had about 18 of those singles in a plastic bag in my office with the sleeves just uncut A4 paper. I agree Pete's writing is somewhat rustic looking but he chose great pictures for it. I know a lot of the people on the Spiritualized forum are Stereolab fans as there's a definite crossover. I'd love people from here to join in: http://ideensynthese.de/spiritualized/ We're all getting excited about Spiritualized's Royal Festival Hall shows next week - that's if Seetickets actually decide to send out tickets out! Best to all, Mark |

Yo Basil... you might want to throw on a Title tag (I think that's what you should use, not sure) for the home page, maybe "Unofficial Stereolab Discography" or something. When I bookmark it, it just says "Untitled Document" (same in the blue bar in the upper right).

I am surprised it is still live. I got a three month free trial that expired. I no longer have access to the site. I will fix it locally though so if it ever gets uploaded again it will be right. Cheers. |

If I'm not mistaken, this resource is long gone. Unless there's another address I don't have. If it's gone, it's really a shame that we have lost this great resource. Basil put a lot of time, effort, and I can't imagine how much money into collecting these treasures. I hope he's proud of what a good job he did on the high res discography project. Isn't there enough really cheap means of keeping it up and running, maybe starting a fund for it? I'm sure lots of people on here would be interested. What are your thoughts about it Basil? Sorry if I missed the lowdown on this. I know Basil sold his collection, but I never read how that went. I greatly admire the dedication to collecting, if you have the means. No more worthy thing to collect than the lab, the musical love of my life for sure. But that resource... I'm hoping we can get back the high res version! I want to see those treasures up close and have it always available.
